Welcome

Welcome to the website for Nottingham Park Estate, an historic residential estate in the heart of the English city of Nottingham.  The Park is one of the most remarkable Victorian residential estates in the country and is an area of national architectural importance as well as a conservation area - it was once the deer park for Nottingham Castle which overlooks it.  The estate is still lit by one of the largest gas street-lighting network in Europe and is maintained privately by Nottingham Park Estate Limited.

This is now the official website of the Nottingham Park Residents' Association (NPRA). Park News is the name of the bi-annual magazine which has been published by the NPRA for over 30 years and this website has taken the same name.  The magazine will continue to be published and delivered free of charge to every household in June and November.

The NPRA exists to represent the interests of the residents of the estate.   If you are a resident, we encourage you to join us, join the website and participate in the discussion forum.   If you are just visiting, you are welcome to look around the site and make use of the information that you find.   For further information, please contact me at webmaster@ParkNews.co.uk.

Choirs in the tunnel

This weekend you can take part in what is believed to be a musical first.  The Park Tunnel is one of the larger holes in Nottingham’s sandstone and with a splendid acoustic which is going to be tested on Sunday between 3 and 4pm.

The event will be an informal concert and singalong led by local community choir conductor Angela Warren and her choir The Songbirds.  Other local choirs will be taking part too – and there will be audience participation.  We hope for more than 100 voices to raise the roof and make a noise about homelessness.

This will be the final event in Raise the Roof! – a month long music festival throughout October organised by the charity Framework to mark its 10th anniversary – raising awareness of homelessness at a time of unprecedented funding cuts when more people than ever are needing support; raising awareness of what Framework is doing to tackle homelessness, and raising funds.

Admission to The Park Tunnel is, of course, free.  We hope people will make a donation as the leave.  For anyone in doubt access to the Park Tunnel is via Tunnel Road at the back of the tennis courts.

Bonfire Night

There will be a bonfire night party at The Park Tennis Club on Friday November 4th.  £5 for adults, £15 for families.  The bar will be open from 6pm to 12pm and there will be two fireworks displays at 7pm and 9pm.  There will also be a hog roast.

Doors and Bar open at 7pm

The Talk Between 1540 and 1770 Nottingham was transformed from a decayed timber-built mediaeval borough to a fashionable brick-built Georgian town. However by 1840 it had become an overcrowded and insanitary industrial city. This talk is based on comments about Nottingham from the Tudor to the Georgian period by both visitors and inhabitants, illustrated by numerous contemporary maps and engravings.

The Speaker Adrian Henstock is a former curator of the Nottinghamshire County Archive and well known local historian

All are welcome. The charge is £5 per talk for NPRA members and £8 non members. Any current non member can save £6 if they attend both lectures by joining the NPRA in advance of these talks. Membership of the NPEL

There has been some confusion among residents regarding Company Membership and we would like to clarify the details and procedures.

Company Membership provides an entitlement to receive copies of accounts, notices of General and Annual General Meetings and to attend and vote on resolutions at those meetings. We encourage all eligible residents to become Members and do need to advise that there is small liability to contribute (not exceeding £5) to the assets should the Company be wound up.

In accordance with the Company’s Articles of Association, all Freeholders and Long Leaseholders of property within the Estate are eligible to become Members of the Company provided that their Rentcharge payments are up to date and there are no arrears. However, Membership is not automatic and whilst there is no charge for Membership, a formal application is required. It is very simple; all that is required is to check the bottom section of the Rentcharge demand headed: ‘Company Membership’. If this indicates that you are a Member then no further action is required. If it indicates that you are not a Member, and you would like to be, please just put a tick in the box and return the form to the Estate Office where upon your name will be added to the list of Members.

Please note that any Member who has failed to pay the Rentcharge for 90 days after the due date will be removed from the Members list and cannot become a Member again until all arrears have been paid and he has provided six months notice in writing of his desire to become a Member.

Any resident who wishes to check their status in respect of Membership at any time should check their latest Rentcharge Demand or contact the Estate Office.
