Nottingham University NewsAlan Metcalfe, a researcher at Nottingham University is conducting research on the 'disposal' of goods from households in, although not strictly tied to, the Radford, Lenton, Dunkirk and Park areas of the city. He is looking for people who are willing to participate in the research, for which they will receive payment of £60.

The School of Geography at Nottingham University is looking for people to participate in a project on the disposal of things. All that is required is for you to keep a simple ‘tick-box’ diary of things you throw away for about a year and then be interviewed in your own home about those things 4 times over that year. For this you will receive a payment of £60.

We are not interested in your everyday household waste, rather we are interested in a variety of different goods, including: clothes, consumer electronics (TV, video etc.), household (e.g. kitchen) appliances, furniture, decorative items, tools, toys, cars, etc. Nor are we judging people for their ‘green’ disposal habits (or lack of them). What we are interested in is:

  • Where do people dispose of different types of goods?

  • How do people dispose of these goods?

  • What happens to goods before disposal?

  • Do people discuss the disposal of some things more than they do others?

  • Are there some things that people feel they could never dispose of?

If you are interested or want to know a little more about the project then please contact Alan Metcalfe on: 0115 847 6543

Or email me on: alan.metcalfe@nottingham.ac.uk

Thanks.
