Nottingham Castle NewsThe 8th Nottingham Shakespeare Festival is underway with Hamlet and As You Like It being performed in the grounds of the castle. I assume this must have something to do with the fireworks which are going off at 10.30pm every night.

I'm going to Hamlet on Wednesday 6th. I'll let you know what it's like. Here is the link to The Royal Centre website.
My review - Overall it was an excellent production on the hottest night of th year. It had been ruthlessly abridged, even to the point of losing the opening and closing scences but was no less enjoyable for that. The end came very abruptly. Just as I was wondering if I would have to embarass myself by getting up and going to the loo, suddenly the stage was littered with bodies and Hamlet was dying in Horatio's arms.

The performances were all excellent except for Emily Lloyd who made a demented but far from tragic Ophelia. Hamlet was particularly good.
