After a long delay and having been offline, I have finally restarted the competition for May. Click on Competition in the left hand menu and answer the question to have a chance of winning a meal for 2 with wine at Nottingham's best public house in the Lace Market. These meals have been greatly enjoyed by those who have been fortunate enough to win and the small number of entries gives you a very good chance of winning.

After many months absence, the discussion forum has been recreated. I had to disbable the old one because hackers were using it to vandalise the website. We will now have to wait and see if the new one is any more secure. You can find the forum by clicking on "Discussion Forum" link in the menu on the left.

This website now has a new domain name. I did not have ownership of the previous domain and it became necessary to change it rather than continue with the risk of it being withdrawn. The new domain name should have some positive impact in that it more accurately identifies the site as a UK based one and this will enhance its performance with search engines.The discussion forum has been temporarily disabled after Turkish hackers used it to deface the site over new year. This website has now moved from its old server. Some of the old features are not yet working fully and will gradually come back online as I get the time to rebuild it. Please bear with me, normal service will be resumed as soon as possible.

Frank Robinson, the "Xylophone Man", whose good-humoured but tuneless busking outside the Broadmarsh Centre was a seemingly permanent feature of life in Nottingham, has died at Queens Medical Centre. Most of the material that is sent to me by residents concerns planning applications within the estate. Rather than devote the main part of the site to this issue I have created a new discussion forum where you can discuss these issues and canvas support for any objections or responses. Elizabeth Penrose Hodgson (nee Bradley) of Cornwall, who discovered our website by chance has emailed some of her reminiscences of The Park. Click on the story heading above or on "read more..." below to see them. All small historical details like this are most welcome. Does anyone know which is the former Bradley house that she describes?

I've made some changes behind the scenes of the website which will hopefully make it easier for search engines such as Google to index our pages. If you notice any strange errors on the site please let me know. It is possible that if you have bookmarked any page other than the home page that the link may no longer work but if all has gone according to plan you should not notice any changes.

I've been on holiday for the last 2 weeks. While I was away, someone by the name of "Michelle G" emailed me some photographs for the photo gallery. Michelle, I was able to recover the photos but not the text of the email message or your email address so I would be grateful if you could get in touch again. I'm about to do another mailshot of the entire estate to promote the website. It's about 8 months since the last one. Hopefully this will encourage greater participation by residents. Apologies to those of you who will receive an unneccessary leaflet.

This website has now moved to a new server. You may find that a very few messages in the discussion forums have been lost. I'll try and get these back but I'm not sure if it will work. Other than that, the process seemed to go quite smoothly.

After the website was hacked, the level of service from my former webhosting company deteriorated dramatically and eventually the server failed altogether. I've now moved the site to a larger and hopefully more professional company. I apologise for the recent downtime, it was out of my control.

TheParkEstate.com was a casualty of war on Thursday when Saudi Arabian "hackers" defaced the front page with a political message relating to the situation in the Middle East. If you would like to read what they had to say, I have preserved it in this link here. Be warned that the message contains obscenities and anti-US/Israeli sentiments. The attack made the national news. Unfortunately I eventually had to resort to a 10 day old backup of the site, so we have lost 10 members and quite a few forum messages. Please resubmit anything that you had added in the last 10 days.

We now have 34 members on the website. I'll do another mailshot in a week or so, of about 1000 leaflets this time, which should get the numbers up to about 60. Then we will have to start getting more inventive since my target is to get at least 300 registered users.Thanks to all the new members for joining.  Watch out for these promotional business cards. I have just had 1000 printed on very advantageous terms at printing.com in town. I'm going to spread a few around and then maybe do a mail drop around the estate with dougal. If you would like a few cards to give to your neighbours and friends, please get in touch.There may be as many as 2500 adults in The Park so our current total of 17 registered users is not yet terribly impressive. www.TheParkEstate.com is open for business as of today, 20th January 2003. Everything is backed up to CD and seems to be working. Thank you to everyone who has registered, I'm now going to start promoting the site more widely. I also hope to update the "Getting Started" guide with some more useful content soon.Please use the forums and upload you photos to the gallery and we will see if this can become a useful community resource. |
