I've recently moved to the park and would like to know if there is there a reason why the gate between Lenton Av. / Lenton Rd and Park Rd cannot be locked at night? (it has a lock after all)

I live on Lenton Road and am often kept awake or awoken at 3am(!) by noisy groups of people using Lenton Rd as a short-cut to get from town to Lenton. I've also started to receive presents of empty beer cans and crumpled cigarette packets on my porch in the morning. I can only imagine what treats may be awaiting me once the festive season gets into full swing!

As an aside...I have noticed that during Uni term time you will find: noise, litter, little things happen like your bin being stolen. However, nothing really bad happening.
Outside of Uni term time I have had a lot more serious things happen (radio stolen, car vandalised etc). In my opinion the students act as a sort of barrier for more serious crime! Who else would be walking past your car at all hours?

By way of background when these gates were installed there was a resident consultation about locking them and the outcome was that it was better not to lock them. The City Council also considered them to be rights of way (which can't be blocked) although that was not subject to legal testing. I fear the increase in nuisance behaviour, late night noise and inconsiderate actions (soem of which comes from other residents of the estate it must be said) mean maybe the matter should be looked at again?
